Chatunga and four others granted bail

by

Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, son of the late former President Robert Mugabe, and four security aides accused of robbing a security official have been released on bail pending trial.

Chatunga appeared in court today alongside his security aide, Munashe Mubhawu, and three other security guards, Terence Johannes Chinyemba, Fredson Peter and Solomon Pamire. They are accused of robbing Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) official Mr Lloyd Mupanduki.

The five appeared before Magistrate Mr Tapiwa Kuhudzai and were each granted US$100 bail after the State consented to their release. The prosecution said there were no compelling reasons to oppose bail.

As part of their bail conditions, the five must continue living at their given addresses, report to the police once a week and not interfere with State witnesses. They are due back in court on November 24, when a trial date may be allocated.
